Old Nice is the historic center of the city... in the very beginning... in the 2nd century BC, the Ligurians and the Greeks (Nikaïa) settled on the castle; it was only in the 13th century that the Niçois descended from the upper city, the castle, to the lower city, which took on the appearance we know today with its narrow streets and tall houses. The destruction of the ramparts ordered by Louis XIV in 1706 allowed the extension of the New City towards the Cours Saleya and the Port Lympia, the Saint Francois de Paule neighborhood.
